The BSA adult leader training continuum is built on a series of steps which start with foundational training, followed by position-specific training and advanced/supplemental training options.

training-steps.gifAll adult leaders are required to take Youth Protection training and recertify every two years. To complete basic leadership training requirements, the starting point for new leaders is Fast Start, which is available online through the BSA online learning center. This brief session is program-specific; that is, there is are separate Fast Start training modules for Cub, Boy Scout, and Venturing adult leaders. Following Fast Start, BSA basic leader training includes New Leader Essentials, which provides information which is common to all BSA programs, followed by Leader-Specific Training, which is specific to each position. Once basic adult leader training is complete, advanced opportunities, such as Wood Badge and Powderhorn, are available to deepen leadership skills. There is also supplemental training available in a wide variety of areas.
