Meet Bill Conrad. He's traveled around the world a few times.
Bill is formerly the Arrowhead District OA Chapter Adviser, and now works with North Shore District on the training team - he's currently coordinating our upcoming Scoutmaster training event, which will involve five Capitol Area Council districts - almost half the council. And he is also the Committee Chair for Troop 159.
In his Scouting career, Bill has held many leader roles in both Cub and Boy Scouting, including being a past Scoutmaster of Troop 159. He's a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow, a BSA Climbing Instructor, and a BSA Lifeguard. Over the past several years, Bill has shared his Scouting expertise as a trainer, taking on key roles in a wide variety of training. Bill is also a former Scoutmaster and Course Director for Silver Pines (NYLT) and has served on a Wood Badge staff. He is among our most experienced Scouter trainers, and a 2005 District Award of Merit recipient.
Outside of Scouting, Bill has lent a hand to both his church and neighborhood school. During high school football season, he also helps out as a chaperone for the Westwood High School Band.
Bill was almost an Aggie, headed toward a veterinary career when he decided at the last minute instead to attend the US Naval Academy ("I had my room at Texas A&M reserved", Bill says). After serving aboard the SSBN Benjamin Franklin (a nuclear ballistic missile sub - or "boomer") for several years, he transitioned into the Naval Reserve, eventually retiring as a Commander.
Bill has a strong belief in the Scout Oath and Law as a driving force in our daily lives. And he enjoys the outdoors. These are the reasons he believes in and stays active in Scouting.
Good thing there is no Scout Law about not doing wild and crazy things. Bill is also a bungee jumper - multiple times. Not sure what to say about that, other than "Cowabunga, Bill!".
