Sadly, this past Tuesday, October 27th, North Shore lost one of our Scouters. Kris Klein, Scoutmaster of Troop 161, was involved in a traffic accident west of Leander.

Kris was an inspiration to all of the young men of the troop. He truly wanted to do all he could to help his Scouts realize their goals, and his positive impacts on many of them will be lifelong. Dedicated to his family, he shared his love of the outdoors with his sons Korey and Kurtis, both members of Troop 161.

Inducted into the Order of the Arrow as an adult, Kris was proud to have been so honored, and recently received the Brotherhood Honor. In recognition of the difference he has made to the lives of others, Kris was also recently nominated for consideration in the BSA 100th Anniversary National Hall of Leadership.

It was not only in Scouting that Kris left his mark. An active member of Leander United Methodist Church, he chaired the board of trustees and was the Senior High Sunday School teacher.

In Scouting, we often talk about leaving a legacy. Our Scouting legacy is not so much about what we leave behind, but what paths we open for others as they go forward in their own lives. Kris' Scouting legacy will be reflected in the paths the young men he led take as they create their own legacies in the years ahead.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, 10/31/09 at 1:00pm at Bethany United Methodist, with a reception following.
