Rose Bowl Kicks Off BSA Scouting Centennial The Tournament of Roses Parade on New Years Day marked the start of a year-long celebration of Scouting’s 100th anniversary. An award-winning float from the Boy Scouts of America rolled down the streets of Pasadena, California as part of a year-long celebration that lands in the Central Texas area this month. Throughout 2010, the Capitol Area Council will hold a series of events:
January 30-31: Adventure Base 100 sets up in Austin with
some of the most interesting contents from the National Scouting Museum
(based in an 18-wheeler trailer) plus a theater and climbing wall. It
will be open across Congress Avenue from the Bob Bullock State History
Museum, north of the State Capitol building.
Feb. 6: Report to State expand into a statewide celebration for
Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturers. Besides the traditional parade
down Congress Avenue, there will be a camp on Auditorium Shores.
Feb. 19-21: Boy Scouts 13 and older can participate in this contingent attending this international event in Monterrey, Mexico.
March: Believe It, Live It, the film about the Scout Law
created by Central Texas Scouts, comes to a Cedar Park park in a free
showing for the community.
July 31: Shining Light Across America, the opening arena show
of the 100th Anniversary National Scout Jamboree will be broadcast from
Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia, to Central Texas in a special showing.
Oct. 8-10:
ScoutJam 2010, a council-wide camporee, will be held at the Travis
County Exposition Center. Boy Scouts can camp and enjoy special
events. Cub Scouts can spend an exciting day while their packs show
off skills and activities at booths in a huge scout fair exposition.
Other plans include a Habitat for Humanity home to be built by area
Eagle Scouts plus a tree planting program in which Scout units and
families can plant lasting monuments to Scouting. Scouts participating
in 2010 activities can earn a commemorative patch with special segments
for each event.

and consult the Capitol Area Council Web site for further details as
they become available.
