North Shore District was created as part of a planned restructuring of Capitol Area Council service areas. In early 2007, results of a council-sponsored study indicated that changes in Austin and surrounding area demographics made it desirable to realign the council structure with area growth patterns. North Shore District was established to serve the Scouting needs of youth in the Leander and Lago Vista Independent School Districts. It is one of twelve districts within the Capitol Area Council, and began operation as of January 1, 2008.
The district is composed of those Scouting units (Packs, Troops, Teams, Crews) which are chartered by organizations located within the service area. There is also a group of Scouter volunteers who collectively work together as a "district staff" to assist units in making their Scouting programs successful. Each month, the district holds Roundtable meetings attended by unit leaders, providing them with opportunities for sharing of experiences and program ideas. It also provides program support in a number of areas, including advancement, camping, and training. Finally, the district conducts a number of events throughout the year, including activities such as Cub Day Camp, District Camporee, and Webelos Woods.
