TAKE PART IN THE EAGLE HOME BUILD

Eagle Home - week 1 b

The Eagle Home build is a special service project, recognizing the 100th Anniversary of Scouting and the 25th Anniversary of Austin Habitat for Humanity. You can learn more by visiting www.eaglescouthome.com .

We have already had Eagles and adults from Troops 5, 990, 399, 30 and 31 commit to participate, but now we need volunteers from your unit. We have primarily targeted Eagles for this project, but neither you nor your Scouts have to be an Eagle to volunteer (youth must be at least 17, however).

Our greatest need is for volunteers on June 12 and July 24. PleaseCLICK HERE , complete the 2-step registration and join this effort.

North Shore District Eagle Scout Board of Review Policy

The North Shore District has decided to improve our Eagle Scout Board of Review process with the goals of enhancing the quality of the review boards and increasing the significance of the Eagle Rank.

The North Shore District Advancement Committee Chair or his/her designee will schedule the Eagle Board of Reviews.   The composition of the board will be determined solely by the North Shore District Advancement Committee Chair or his/her designee.     A unit may suggest one member of the board that will be reviewed and approved by the North Shore District Advancement Committee Chair or his/her designee.  The North Shore District Advancement Committee Chair or his/her designee will try to include a member form the scouts unit where possible whether it is suggested by the unit or selected by the North Shore District Advancement Committee Chair or his/her designee.

An Eagle Board of Review will consist of at least 3 but no more than 6 members over the age of 21 years of age and one of whom will be an Eagle Scout.  The other members of the board will be selected form North Shore District Committee members, North Shore District Scouters, and Eagle Scouts in the community.  An emphasis will be placed on sitting  Eagle Scouts, both registered and non-registered.

The North Shore District Advancement Committee Chair or his/her designee will chair the Board of Review.  All members of the Board of Review will sign the Eagle Scout Application.

The North Shore District Advancement Committee Chair or his/her designee will determine the time and location.   The Eagle Scout Candidates Unit may be requested to supply a suitable meeting room for the review.

Each Unit (Troop, Team, or Venture Crew) will be required to supply a minimum of one volunteer to serve on Eagle Boards of Review. Of Course, the unit can supply more than one volunteer for Eagle Boards of Review.   The North Shore District Advancement Committee will maintain this list.

To be eligible to sit for an Eagle Scout Board of Review, the Eagle Candidate must have a verified application from the Capital Area Council.  A board of review will not be held if the scout does not have a verified application.

An Eagle Candidate must present his final write up of his Eagle Scout Leadership Project, Scout Handbook, unopened Letters of Reference, and his completed Life Statement.

The North Shore District Eagle Scout Board of Review Policies will be consistent with the policies of the Capital Area Council Advancement Committee, and National Council Advancement Committee's policies. In keeping with the Capital Area Councils Advancement Committee policies there will be no unit level Eagle Boards of Reviews, effectively immediately.

Any questions or comments can be directed to Philip Broughton, North Shore Advancement Committee Chair,  512-674-1232.

North Shore District Boy Scout Round Table 3-11

Hello Fellow Scouters,

I just wanted thank all who attended the last North Shore District Boy Scout Round Table Training "Troop Leadership Training." As I promised I'm including the presentation file for your convenience and hope it guides you in training the new scout leaders of your troop and possibly renewing the minds of some of your more experienced scouters. I'm also including some of the template files for SPL troop meeting organization and for Troop Campout Menu & Duty Roster. These files will help your patrol leaders in organizing their meetings and their respective scout patrol members in preparing for campouts. I encourage you to submit your own information or files that would ultimately share the wealth of great experience that is the heritage of our district membership.

Here are links to the documents:

During this month I visited the Boy Scouts of America website for required training and highly recommend it as a guide to insure that all adult leaders are current on their required training: http://www.scouting.org/training/faqs.aspx

In conjunction with this please help us to keep our files are current with your new leaders information and their training completed. We want to be confident in helping our scouts have the best trained leaders in the Boy Scouts. Please contact

With the common usage of the internet I find it useful and informative to see what other scout troops are doing with their websites and troop offerings. When you browse the web take note and share useful information that would benefit others in scouts. It is my desire that we use the district website to be a repository of great scouting resources.

Here are a few of my own:

Capital Area Council Website

Troop 780’s Website very helpful

Finally, I want to ask for some of your time in sending me some of your ideas for training that might help address some of your needs or if you possess some expertise that would help others contact me.

Sincerely Yours in Scouting,

Steve Aleman

North Shore District Boy Scout Round Table Commissioner
